The Other Significant Others

Our dear friend Rhaina Cohen wrote an incredible book about people who make a friendship the central relationship in their lives—owning homes together, raising kids together, or caring for each other for decades. She reveals our tendency to undermine romantic relationships by expecting too much of them while diminishing friendships by expecting too little of them. She laments in the book that there aren't enough songs celebrating friendship -- and asked if we could try writing a song based on the book.

Dear Friend

We had such a meaningful experience integrating some core stories and messages from the book into our new song, "Dear Friend", coming out Feb 13.

Team Rhaina

Our community came together to bring this new piece of music to life, and we are so excited to share this act of love with the world!

Lyrics

When Barb met Inez her life was a mess

Everything was falling apart

Told her husband she’s leavin’

But she had a feeling she was off to a new start

Through 50 years through joy and tears

sharing an old brick home

Share primary care and the peace they won’t

Be facing the end alone

My world feels easy when i’m with you

My place of refuge

You’re my person you’re my rock

the one I call when life gets hard

A part of my soul, a piece of my heart, dear friend

You’re my person you’re my light

And it feels so right

I’ll be there for you the rest of our lives , dear friend

Lynda, you’re a mama.

The lawyer said on the phone

Could finally call the child they raised her own

Through trials and smiles they sang their memories

Lucky to find a chosen family

My world feels better when you’re around

The notes to my music, the light and the sound

You’re my person you’re my rock

the one that I call when life gets hard

A part of my soul a piece of my heart, dear friend

You’re my person you’re my light

Ooo It feels so right

I’ll be there for you the rest of our lives, dear Friend

People don’t get it - they don’t even try

We’re soulmates of a different kind

But if you’re out there and if you do

call up your friends -  your tried and true

And tell them

You’re my person you’re my rock

the one that I call when life gets hard

part of my soul a piece of my heart, dear friend

You’re my person you’re my light

Ooo It feels so right

I’ll be there for you the rest of our lives

Dear friend (Dear friend)

Dear friend (My dear dear friend)

Dear friend (You’re my dear dear friend)

Dear friend (You’re my person you’re my light)

Dear friend (You fill my soul and it feels so right)

Ooooh my dear friend

You’re my person you’re my light

Ooo It feels so right

I’ll be there for you the rest of our lives, dear friend
